“Colonialism” and Israel’s Control of the OPT under International Law, by Fouad Massad (2019)

In 2007, John Dugard- in his capacity as the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories- suggested that certain aspects of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (OPT) constitute colonialism under international law (Dugard, 2008, para. 60). Dugard further called for approaching the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to issue an advisory opinion on this matter (Dugard, 2008, para. 62).
