The Assad Regime’s ‘Extermination’ of Syria’s Civilian Population: A LegalPerspective, by Mira Salhi (2019)

A newspaper article by the British Independent that examines the Syrian Government’s killing of detainees between 2011 and 2015 has been extensively posted and reproduced highly shared on social media platform regarding a document (Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Deaths in Detention in the Syrian Arab Republic) published by the UN Human Rights Council on February 3, 2016 that claims, inter alia, that the Syrian Arab Republic government’s highest ranking officials, in addition to the opposition groups Jabhat al Nusra and ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria), have committed crimes against humanity in Syria. But media coverage of the document focused extensively on the crimes of the Regime, giving minimal attention to the crimes committed by opposition groups in Syria.
